NFREC Sod-based Crop Rotation Field Day June 21

 

Bahia, Peanut & Cotton rotation study at UF/IFAS NFREC Beef Unit.

The UF/IFAS North Florida Research and Education Center will be hosting a Sod-based Crop Rotation Field Day on Thursday, June 21 at the Beef Research Unit north of Marianna.  The tour will provide stops that focus on the benefits of a sod-based rotation such as:  water conservation, soil organic matter and root growth, soil microbial populations, diversifying with cattle, and environmental impacts.  There will also be information presented on farming techniques for the sod-based system, seasonal weather predictions, and the use of climate information in farming decision making.

Registration for the Field Day begins at 9:00 AM central time and will conclude at approximately 2:30 PM.  The Field Day is free, and lunch is included in the event.  For additional information, download the flyer:  Sod-based Rotaion Field Day or contact Tina Gwin:  850-482-9124 extension 101.

Driving directions to the Beef Unit:  The Beef Unit/Bull Test is located 1.4 miles west on highway 162 from the traffic light in Greenwood. The unit is 11.4 miles east of highway 231 on highway 162. From I-10, take highway 71 north at exit 142, through Marianna to Greenwood (approximately 11 miles). An alternative for those coming from the east on I-10 is to exit at 152 at Grand Ridge and take Highway 69 to Greenwood. From Dothan, AL take Highway 231 south and turn left on Highway 162.  The NFREC Beef Unit is located at 4925 Highway 162, Greenwood, Florida, 32443 for those of you using a GPS device.
