Sugarcane Field Day – November 4, 2013

The Sugarcane Field Day is an annual event hosted at the University of Florida Research and Education Center (NFREC-Quincy), in Quincy, Florida, on Monday, November 4, 2013. The Field Day is geared to new and seasoned sugarcane producers, and syrup makers interested in learning production techniques, and about the different sugarcane varieties.   Registered participants will be allowed to harvest propagation material,  or “seed cane” from the research plots at the Research Station.  Each year, various state and regional renowned speakers come to share with farmers and producers their experience in sugarcane production such as:

  • Weed Management
  • Insect and Disease Management
  • Nutrient Management

Registration Information:

Registration fee: $ 10.00 per participant. Make checks/money orders payable to: Gadsden County Extension Education Fund. (GCEEF).

Pre-registration is encouraged.  Pre-registered attendees will be given first access to the fields. Only those registered will be allowed in the fields.  Each participant will only be allowed to cut a strict maximum of 15 stalks of each variety for seed/propagation materials.  Each participant should bring their own cutting tools and transportation.  Registered participants should send a signed note, if a representative will actually be the one actually attending the Field Day and harvesting the seed cane.

  • 10:00 am Cane cutting instructions
